about

This version of "The Woods" was self-recorded on an ancient laptop in my basement in Doylestown, PA in 2008, utilizing my grandparents' old, out of tune upright piano.

lyrics

I follow them home 'cause
the noise doesn't stop when I sleep
And maybe this new thing
might somehow deliver relief
Leave crumbs on the pavement
and all the way back through the trees
Find the pieces that don't fit
and bury them inside of me

The curtain falls too soon
A howl beneath the moon
The owl swoops and swoons
I'm coming off of you

Two teeth in a box with a
six letter word and some charm
And shadows gone missing
are possibly cause for alarm
As the fortunate fool and the lost little light
find their fame
in the absence of ether
in tombstones awaiting a name

The curtain falls too soon
A howl beneath the moon
The owl swoops and swoons
I'm coming off of you

And here in the woods we've got
tricks up our sleeve
And should if we could make sure
you'd never leave
'Cause you'd be the ghost we'd have
haunting our halls
in the spring, in the summer
in the winter and the fall
in the spring, in the summer
in the winter and the fall

But

Is glory the girl?
Or is she the last souvenir?
Or is it the silence that
sometimes instills the most fear?

The curtain falls too soon
A howl beneath the moon
The owl swoops and swoons
I'm coming off of you
I'm coming off of you
I'm coming off
of you

about

The Feverfew Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Feverfew has a sound born in the South and dragged up through the East, landed somewhere between a Brooklyn rooftop and the sea. With unassuming posture, Andrew Bethany Spiers makes an impact. Spiers' lyrics are formidably poetic and steep him as a promising talent in a tradition of literary musicians that includes Patti Smith, David Berman, Thurston Moore and David Byrne, to name a few. ... more
